He has been running since he was 5 years old, made it to the Junior Olympics in the 6th grade and was recognized for his athleticism as soon as he got to high school. Khalfani Muhammad is the current track and field state champion in the Men’s 100- and 200-meter dash, making him the fastest runner in California. He is also recognized as one of the fastest in the United States, despite being only a junior in high school.
In addition to running track and field Khalfani plays the position of football running back, a suitable hobby for the fastest high school student in California.
The Inglewood native resides in Morningside Park and attends Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks. The co-ed Catholic college preparatory high school is recognized for recruiting some of California’s most talented athletes and brightest minds for their outstanding fine arts program.
He commutes to Sherman Oaks every day for school, but he does not do it alone. He and a group of other students in the area carpool and support one another in their endeavors together.
Khalfani tapped into his true potential in middle school when, as he would describe, “the fireworks came on.” He quickly started to stand out from his peers.
The majority of the competitions were team events. He started competing for more individual ones in middle school. The training and races started to pay off and he was quickly recognized for his talents.
He has since become a no- table athlete who has traveled the world for running competitions. He has competed in Barcelona, Spain, anticipates a trip to Dublin Ireland for a football game in the future and is hoping to compete in Rio de Janeiro Brazil for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
When asked about his diet and any restrictions, Khalfani confessed that he can essentially eat whatever he wants due to his high metabolism— yet he still makes sure he does not go overboard when he eats. He is already committed to attend University of California Berkeley in the Fall of 2014. The state champ has interests to study premed or engineering while competing in both track and field and football in Northern California.

Keep an eye out for him in a few years at the Summer Olympic games. Inglewood might just have one of its natives win an Olympic Gold Medal in Brazil in front of the whole world. This is the City of Champions of course, and Khalfani helps maintain it.
