Inglewood Blackhawks Now Back-to-Back National Champs
March 01, 2013

Our hometown, Minor League football team has done it again!

In December, the Inglewood Blackhawks defeated the unbeaten California Raiders with a 44-24 score in the 2012 National Football Events/Western Football News National Championship Game. This game gave the Blackhawks their 39th straight victory.
It also made the Inglewood Blackhawks back-to-back National Champs.

In 2011, the Blackhawks defeated the New York Predators (34-31) in Deland, Florida, for the National Championship.
The Blackhawks finished this season with a 17-0 record. Our team has not lost a game since October 2010, and their record stands at an amazing 48-1. In addition to being undefeated this season, the Blackhawks broke the national scoring record (903 points).

Not content to rest on their laurels, on 16 February, 12 new players were signed.

Among them, are proven champs Marques Kelley, a defensive standout, and All American Mark Anderson. These two have been national champions before, when they played for the Foothill Firehawks.

Adding to the luster is Tony Reid. Early February brought word that Tony was selected by the writers and voters of the LCFL as 2012 Owner and Coach of the Year. This is the first time in league history that an owner has won both awards in the same year. This achievement marks the sixth time that Reid has been named Owner of the Year.

More good news came to Inglewood in February when Tony Reid accepted the title of Head Coach at Inglewood High School. He is sure to work his magic with the Inglewood Sentinels on the field in coming seasons.

The Blackhawks go into the 2013 season being 10-time Conference Champs, 5-time League Champs, and 3-time National Champions. To celebrate and support the Blackhawks, get a “Three- Peat” Championship t-shirt for $10 by calling the team office at .

Inglewood Blackhawks: National Champions to play home game in January
December 10, 2012

The Inglewood Blackhawks is a team with which to be reckoned. Over the years, this professional minor league football team has brought home 10 Conference Championships, four League Championships and two National Championships. Thirty Blackhawks alumni have gone on to play for college teams, the pros (Chargers, Eagles and Cowboys) and Arena teams across the country and in Europe.

The LaBelle Community Football League (LCFL), named for legendary entertainer Patti LaBelle, was launched in Philadelphia in 2003. This non-profit organization was created to empower players to pursue a career in professional foot- ball and to set a positive example for members of their communities. Joining LaBelle in support of the LCFL are NBC anchor and former NFL player Maurice Spencer, Ravens superstar Ray Lewis, Rams wide receiver Mark Clayton, Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha and Super Bowl Champ Az Hakim. Southern California joined the League in 2005 and now the Blackhawks are one of 11 franchises as the LCFL West. The LCFL West is the premier minor league in the country.

Patterned after NFL and NBA professional dance teams, the Ladyhawks entertain fans at all home games. Six of these talented ladies have gone on to perform with the Laker Girls, Clipper Girls, the Chivas Dance Team and the San Diego Charger Girls.

The players and dance team are paid a small stipend per game—only enough to cover gas and a meal—from the gate and concession receipts. None of the eight coaches or office staff are paid. Sponsor money goes toward uniforms, equipment, field rental, advertising and administrative and office costs.

The Inglewood Blackhawks’ home field, Jackie Robinson Stadium in the Rancho Cienega Sports Complex on Rodeo Road just east of LaBrea, is where six of the 13 regular season games are played. The season starts in July and runs through October. After the regular season are the Wild Card Weekend, West Quarter-finals, Semi-finals and Championship games.

Just last month, the Blackhawks did it again and are now five-time League Champs. They are headed to a third National Championship when the playoffs are held at their home field on Saturday, January 12.
